Soil & nutrition

Feeding your trees through the season

When to apply Urea, DAP, MOP, boron, calcium and potassium, following the SKUAST guide.

Relevant stages: Green Tip, Pink Bud, Petal Fall, Fruit Development I, Fruit Development II, Fruit Development III, Pre-Harvest.

The SKUAST guide splits nutrients across the season.

Soil applications

  • Green tip: 1/3rd dose of Urea, the full dose of DAP and 1/2 dose of MOP, as per tree age.
  • Fruit development I: the second dose, 1/3 Urea plus the remaining 1/2 MOP.
  • Fruit development III: the remaining 1/3 Urea.

Foliar sprays

  • Pink bud (or petal fall if missed): foliar boron, 1 to 1.5 g per litre, need-based.
  • Fruit development I, II and III: calcium chloride, 3 to 4 g per litre, each time.
  • Fruit development III and pre-harvest: potassium sulphate, 4 to 5 g per litre, need-based, for colour.

"As per tree age" means younger trees need less. Ask your agronomist for the exact soil dose for your trees. Check the product label before every foliar spray.

General guidance. Always read product labels and consult an agronomist for problems specific to your orchard.
