Reading the spray window
What good and closed mean, and how Applefy decides.
The most-used part of Applefy is a single word at the top of the Home screen: GOOD or CLOSED. Here is what stands behind it.
What the spray window is
Applefy looks at the hourly forecast for your orchard's location over roughly the next 18 hours. If conditions are suitable now, it shows GOOD and how long until that changes. If they are not, it shows CLOSED and how long until the window reopens.
What makes it close
- Wind of 15 km/h or more. Stronger wind carries spray away from the trees and onto things you do not want to treat.
- A rain chance of 30% or more. Rain soon after spraying can wash a product off before it has done its job.
If either one crosses its limit, the window is closed until both drop back below.
How to use it
- Check it in the morning to plan the day, and again just before you start mixing.
- Use the time shown as a guide. Forecasts change, so leave yourself some margin.
- Read the product label. Some products need a longer dry period than the spray window assumes.
Storm alerts
Separately, Applefy checks the next 24 hours for thunderstorms or heavy rain and shows an alert on Home so you can move sprays and covers indoors in time.
