Powdery mildew: what to remove

A white powdery growth on young shoots that is best controlled by sanitation.

Relevant stages: Fruit Let, Fruit Development I.

Powdery mildew shows as a white powdery coating on young shoots and leaves.

  • Remove young shoots affected by powdery mildew. The SKUAST guide lists this at fruit let and fruit development I.
  • Keep the canopy open so leaves dry quickly.
  • Scout regularly, since new infected shoots keep appearing.
  • If a spray is needed, follow the fungicide plan for your stage and the label.

General guidance. Always read product labels and consult an agronomist for problems specific to your orchard.
