Insect pests
Fruit borers and pheromone traps
Using traps to time action for fruit-boring pests.
Relevant stages: Fruit Let.
At fruit let, place pheromone traps at 8 to 10 per hectare to monitor fruit borers. The SKUAST guide lists Quinalphos 25EC at 100 ml per 100 L for this stage.
- Check traps on a set day each week and note the counts.
- A sudden rise in catches is your signal to act.
- Remove and destroy damaged fruit.
- Follow the label and the pre-harvest interval.
General guidance. Always read product labels and consult an agronomist for problems specific to your orchard.
