Pruning tools and wound care
Sharp, clean tools and tidy cuts heal faster.
Relevant stages: Delayed Dormancy.
- Keep saws and secateurs sharp. Ragged cuts heal slowly.
- Clean tools between trees when you have cut diseased wood.
- Cut just outside the branch collar. Do not leave stubs or cut flush.
- Remove pruned wood from the orchard floor and dispose of diseased material. Orchard sanitation is a routine SKUAST recommendation.
- Avoid wounding stems, branches or roots at other times, especially during flowering.
