Spraying & safety

Spraying around rain

Timing fungicides so rain helps, not hurts.

Relevant stages: Green Tip, Tight Cluster, Petal Fall, Fruit Let.

Several SKUAST recommendations depend on rain.

  • Green tip and tight cluster: Mancozeb before full-day rain, and skip if dry for 7 or more days.
  • Petal fall and fruit let: fungicide before rains.
  • Later stages: spray only if rain is forecast.
  • Pink bud: spray if the weather is dry.
  • Avoid spraying immediately after heavy rains in low-altitude areas, and avoid wet, hot conditions.

Protectant products need to be on the leaf before rain, and to dry first. Use the spray window to find a dry gap.

General guidance. Always read product labels and consult an agronomist for problems specific to your orchard.
