Spraying & safety

Using pesticides safely

Protecting yourself, your family, bees and your fruit.

Before you spray

  • Buy only from a registered dealer with a valid licence, and keep the bill.
  • Check the batch number, registration number, manufacture date and expiry date on the pack.
  • Read the label. Follow the dose, crops and waiting period exactly. Do not use less or more than prescribed.
  • Use only products and doses recommended by SKUAST-Kashmir for your stage.
  • Do not mix different chemicals in the same tank unless your agronomist and the label say it is safe.
  • Mix with clean water, never muddy or stagnant water.
  • Check the spray window in Applefy, and avoid spraying in strong wind.
  • Spray in the morning or evening, not in the hottest hours of the day.

Protect yourself

  • Wear gloves, a face mask, an apron or long clothes covering your whole body, and eye protection. Never spray without protective clothing.
  • Wash hands and clothes afterwards, before eating or drinking.
  • Keep children and animals away from mixing and spraying areas.

After

  • Respect the pre-harvest interval shown on the label.
  • Rinse empty containers and dispose of them safely, never reuse them for food or water.
  • Store products in their original packs, locked away.
  • Do not spray open blossoms while bees are active.

General guidance. Always read product labels and consult an agronomist for problems specific to your orchard.
